When the pandemic began, everyone involved in the ME, CFS, and ME/CFS domain assumed that there would be a wave of post-acute, prolonged complications, since every virus seems to leave in its wake a small but still significant number of people who report a range of non-specific symptoms. It was also widely predicted that many in the medical world would interpret these physical complaints as psychosomatic, psychogenic, or “functional,” to use the current buzzword in this complicated field.

Trial By Error: Journalist Ryan Prior Discusses His Upcoming Book on Long Covid, The Long Haul

CNN journalist Ryan Prior is the author of an upcoming book on long Covid called The Long Haul: Solving the Puzzle of the Pandemic’s Long Haulers and How They Are Changing Healthcare Forever. Ryan, who is 32, has struggled with ME/CFS for half of his life—he first got sick in October, 2006, just before his 17th birthday, and was diagnosed the following year. His documentary about the illness, Forgotten Plague, was released in 2015.

Trial By Error: Coupla More Posts Worth Reading

Ryan Prior is a CNN journalist who told the story of his own ME/CFS diagnosis and illness in the 2015 documentary Forgotten Plague. (I’m interviewed in the film.) On Sunday, he told the story of a friend he met as a result of the film, and the choice she made last year to end her life in Switzerland through a legal process not available to her at home in Tennessee. I’ve included the first few paragraphs below.
